Globally, more than 3 million deaths are due to unsafe care practices, while at the same time, the total burden on health systems worldwide, due to harm to patients, is estimated at 6 million DALYs (Disability Adjusted Life Years).

In this context, the World Health Organization (WHO) has developed a Global Action Plan for Patient Safety in consultation with the Member States and all relevant stakeholders. On August 4, 2021, the first online presentation of the approved Global Patient Safety Action Plan (GPSA) and the parameters to be implemented by the National Health Systems took place. All countries around the world, without exception, are called upon to design and implement targeted national policies with measurable results and a positive impact on the security of health services.

The EuroMediterranean Institute for Quality and Safety of Health Services, a member of the Global Patient Safety Network (GPSN) of the WHO participated in the online meeting.
