Ms. Mariana Tsana is a public health professional with more than 12 years of experience in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, clinical governance, health systems strengthening and the implementation of public health programmes.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with Applications in Biomedicine and a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Bedfordshire in the United Kingdom. Her combined background in computer science and public health enables her to address complex health system challenges through an analytical, evidence-based and practice-oriented approach.

She currently works as a Scientific Project Coordinator at the Euro-Mediterranean Institute for Quality and Safety in Health Services – Avedis Donabedian, where she contributes to the design, coordination and implementation of national and European projects in healthcare quality and safety. Her work includes, among other areas, the development of quality assessment frameworks, standards and indicators, clinical governance and risk management tools, surveillance systems, clinical protocols, training programmes and evidence-based guidance tools.

She has extensive experience in coordinating complex projects, preparing technical and scientific reports, and collaborating with public health authorities, healthcare providers, academic institutions, international organisations and multidisciplinary teams of experts.

Throughout her professional career, she has contributed to projects involving the development of national frameworks for healthcare quality and service assessment, clinical governance and clinical audit, incident and risk management, communicable disease surveillance, infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance, as well as the development of telemedicine protocols and educational tools for healthcare professionals.

She has worked at the National Public Health Organization of Greece on the EU co-funded EU-JAMRAI programme, which focused on the European Joint Action on Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections. She has also participated in the design and implementation of vaccination interventions targeting vulnerable and minority populations, as well as in the development of digital tools and educational materials for healthcare professionals.

In parallel, she has experience in the development and delivery of training activities, scientific presentations and papers, and in participating in conferences, seminars and workshops at both national and European level.

A central focus of her professional approach is the promotion of quality, safety and equitable access to healthcare services. The protection of vulnerable populations, the reduction of health inequalities, and the strengthening of the effectiveness and resilience of health systems are core principles reflected throughout her work.
