Mission

The Euro-Mediterranean Institute for Quality and Safety in Health Services, Avedis Donabedian, was founded by healthcare professionals with a shared vision of improving the quality, safety, and effectiveness of healthcare services for the benefit of both healthcare professionals and the citizens served by healthcare systems.

The Institute’s mission is to support the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, programs, and interventions that contribute to the creation of modern, safe, people-centered, and sustainable health systems.

“By healthcare professionals, for healthcare professionals and the public—the patient.”

Through initiatives in advisory support, training, knowledge transfer, research, and innovation, the Institute helps improve clinical effectiveness, the patient experience, organizational performance, and the overall value delivered by healthcare services.

Our work is grounded in international priorities for Universal Health Coverage, equitable access to quality health services, and the enhancement of patient safety at all levels of care delivery. At the same time, we promote the implementation of evidence-based practices, international standards, and modern models of clinical governance that enhance accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

The Institute’s active participation in the World Health Organization’s Global Patient Safety Network (GPSN) and the European Platform for Innovation in Public Health of WHO/ Europe reflects our commitment to actively contribute to the international effort to promote quality, safety, and innovation in health.

“We connect Greece with the international community dedicated to quality, patient safety, and innovation in healthcare.”

At the same time, we seek to align our actions with the strategies and guidelines of international organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Commission, the OECD, and other international bodies that shape contemporary health policies on a global level.

Particular emphasis is placed on developing mechanisms for measuring and evaluating quality, safety, clinical effectiveness, and patient experience, as well as on ensuring the reliability and objectivity of the data that support decision-making and health policy planning.

“We transform knowledge, data, and international best practices into measurable improvements for patients and healthcare organizations.”

We believe that quality is not limited to compliance with standards and procedures, but is directly linked to the creation of real value for patients, healthcare professionals, and the healthcare system as a whole. For this reason, we promote value-based healthcare approaches that focus on outcomes that truly matter to citizens and on the rational use of available resources.

We support the design, implementation, and evaluation of health policies, systems, and services that improve the patient experience, enhance clinical effectiveness, and generate measurable outcomes for society.
