Participation in the WHO Global Patient Safety Network (GPSN)

Patient safety is one of the most important pillars of modern health systems and encompasses a wide range of policies, strategies and interventions that improve the quality, effectiveness and safety of healthcare services. Despite significant international progress, adverse events remain one of the leading causes of preventable harm to patients, with major implications for both public health and the sustainability of health systems.

«Patient safety is a fundamental prerequisite for the provision of quality healthcare services and a shared responsibility of all stakeholders.»

Recognizing the need for global collaboration and knowledge exchange, the World Health Organization (WHO) established the Global Patient Safety Network (GPSN) as an international platform connecting organizations, institutions and experts active in the field of patient safety. The network aims to facilitate the exchange of experiences, best practices, tools, methodologies and innovative approaches that contribute to improving the safety and quality of healthcare services worldwide.

The network connects national and international patient safety organizations, ministries of health, policy‑making bodies, national focal points of WHO member states, academic institutions, professional associations and other stakeholders actively involved in developing and implementing patient safety policies.

The Institute’s participation

The Institute’s participation in the Global Patient Safety Network strengthens its connection with the international patient safety community and supports access to cutting‑edge expertise, tools and best practices from around the world.

At the same time, it enables the Institute to actively contribute to global knowledge exchange, promoting actions related to patient safety, clinical governance, risk management and continuous improvement of healthcare services.

This participation fully aligns with the Institute’s mission to serve as a center for developing and disseminating expertise, supporting health organizations and professionals in implementing international standards and modern practices for safer and higher‑quality care.
