World Patient Safety Day was established in 2019 by the 72nd World Health Assembly through the adoption of resolution WHA72.6 “Global action on Patient Safety” and is celebrated annually on 17 September.
The main objective of the establishment of the World Day is to promote, on a global level, actions to prevent and reduce harm to the patient during the provision of health care. Each year, the Day is dedicated to a specific topic, which is judged to be a vital parameter for patient safety and the achievement of Universal Health Coverage, in the context of sustainability in the Health Sector (Sustainable Development Goals) such as defined by the United Nations.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), every day 5400 stillborn babies, 810 dead women and 6700 dead newborns are recorded. For this reason, the topic chosen by P.O.Y. for World Patient Safety Day 2021 is “Safe care for mother and newborn”, as the risks to which women and newborns are potentially exposed are increased, when the required measures for safe care are not taken before, during and after childbirth.
The Euro-Mediterranean Institute participates in the actions to promote the messages and goals of the Day as established by the World Health Organization and presents you with the most up-to-date data on the Safety of the mother and the newborn.
