In the frame of this seminar international standards to be followed throughout the perioperative process (preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative) are explained in order to make operative procedures safer through systematization, clinical guidelines and internal monitoring tools. The purpose is to mitigate the risk of “sentinel/ critical events” such as wrong site, patient or procedure and unintentional foreign body retention, as well as minimization of other complications risks (e.g. surgical site infection, hypothermia, e.tc.) and provide guidance in other important areas such as medication management, patient evaluation and overall risk mitigation
Protocols are, also, analyzed for clinical staff to promote the establishment and internal control of implementation of the essential safety protocols according to ESA (European Anesthesiology Association) and the Helsinki Declaration.
