Mr. Dimitris Galanis is an Orthopaedic Surgeon who maintains a private orthopaedic practice in Nea Artaki, Chalkida, Greece. His surgical practice focuses primarily on total joint replacement of major joints (hip and knee arthroplasty), sports injuries, fracture management, and the full spectrum of general orthopaedics.

He currently serves as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Shoulder and Sports Injuries Clinic of Metropolitan General Hospital, where he is involved in the management of complex shoulder disorders and injuries, the surgical and conservative treatment of sports-related injuries, and the application of modern robotic-assisted and minimally invasive (arthroscopic) techniques in orthopaedic surgery.

He is actively involved in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK Ultrasound) in both adults and children, as well as in the performance of ultrasound-guided therapeutic injections with a high degree of precision and safety in the outpatient setting. A particular area of interest is the application of musculoskeletal ultrasound in elite athletes for both diagnosis and monitoring of recovery from sports injuries. He closely follows international developments in this rapidly evolving field. He is a co-founder of Sonopedics (Sonopedics.com), a London-based company specializing in musculoskeletal ultrasound education, and serves internationally as an instructor in musculoskeletal ultrasound, with a strong focus on practical training.

He was admitted with distinction to the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Thessaly in Larissa through the national entrance examinations and graduated in 2004 with a grade  of “Very Good”. He completed his rural medical service at Chios General Hospital and the Kambochora Regional Medical Centre. He fulfilled his military service in Arta and subsequently served as a physician at the Military Rehabilitation Unit (STEP) in Chios, where he also trained nursing and paramedical personnel in general and emergency military medicine.

He received postgraduate clinical training in Germany and Greece in General Surgery and Trauma, Paediatric Orthopaedics, Adult Orthopaedics, Orthopaedic Oncology and Plastic Surgery. Following completion of his orthopaedic specialty training, he undertook intensive advanced training in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (MSK Ultrasound) in Heidelberg, Germany, gaining expertise in this diagnostic field. In 2014, he obtained Board Certification in Orthopaedic Surgery following successful written and oral examinations conducted by the Region of Attica, Greece.

He earned his PhD with distinction from the Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). Prior to this, he was awarded the 1st National Prize by the Hellenic Society for the Study of Bone Metabolism (HSSBM) in 2015 for part of his doctoral research. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Health Care Management from the Hellenic Open University. In addition, he is currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Medical School of NKUA, participating in an interdisciplinary research collaboration with the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) focused on the development of personalised 3D-printed spinal orthoses.

Since 2015, alongside his medical practice, he has been actively involved in healthcare quality systems and ISO standards, with a particular focus on healthcare services. He is a certified Lead Auditor, having successfully completed training and examinations accredited by the International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) for ISO 9001 and EN 15224 standards. For more than a decade (2015–2026), he served as a certified healthcare surveyor for Temos International and Temos Hellas. He also collaborates as a Lead Auditor with Swiss Approval. To date, he has participated in audits throughout Greece and internationally (including Egypt, Cyprus and Dubai among others) accumulating more than 300 audit person-days.

He has authored scientific publications and presented research at national and international scientific journals and conferences. He also serves as a peer reviewer for international scientific journals.
